Andy Phillips & The Cadillac Walk is a talented, hardworking, professional three piece blues, rock and rock n roll band that has been blowing away audiences since their inception in late 2013. The band blends religiously cool classic retro rock hits, high energy Texas blues with some good old fashioned rock n roll to boot, plus a good dose of original tunes!
Frontman Andy Phillips, hailed as one of the most exciting guitarists presently on the Melbourne music scene, combines extraordinary skill with tasteful dynamics and striking vocals. In his early twenties, with itchy feet, his guitar and a one way ticket, he headed off from living on the family farm in NZ to Sydney, then onto London where his cousin works at Abbey Rd. Studios where he dabbled and soaked up the music scene there for a time, but the cold got too much so back he came to settle into the music capital of Australia, Melbourne.
In 2013, after a trip to Austin Texas, where he played on a guitar at the iconic ‘Maggie Mae’s on Sixth St.’ previously owned by THE Stevie Ray Vaughan (an offer generously made by musician Alan Haynes, who is the present owner of the guitar), Phillips returned home with a renewed energy and insight and decided to form and front his own band, a lifelong dream of his. His admiration of SRV has also led to a highly acclaimed annual show he performs each year in tribute to one of his favourite influences, the bluesman himself, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Phillips strikes all who meet him as that rare combination of humility and exceptional talent, described often as the ‘coolest of cool’, ‘the whole package’ and ‘the real deal’ – he and his band The Cadillac Walk, is a refreshing presence on the festival and gig circuit.
The bands fast rise to festival and venue favourites both here in Oz and New Zealand is based on their ability to engage audiences and draw them into the magic they create onstage. Their incredible stage presence and musicianship has crowds talking long after the show is over, bringing back their friends to see them again and again.
Theirs is such a varied and interesting show that you are guaranteed a fresh experience each time. In addition, the trio often have a surprise guest for a set, something their regular followers look forward to. These full time musicians live and breath music and are devoted to putting on a show that will blow you away each and every time.
In such a short time their career highlights are incredibly impressive, they include performing at Austin Blues Society Stage, Austin Texas USA, Bendigo Blues Festival, St Kilda Festival, MBAS (Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society) Feature Artist, Elwood Blues Club Feature Artist, Sleepy Hollow Blues Club Headline Artist, Peninsula Blues Club Feature Artist, West Oz Blues Festival, Frankston Waterfront Festival, Mordialloc Food and Wine Festival, Westernport Music Festival, Rotorua Blues Festival NZ, Bay Of Islands Blues Festival NZ, Eltham Jazz & Blues Festival and the highly acclaimed Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute Show.
